WOOD BIRTHED FROM CLAYGold Key winning piece in Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards 2020
8.5" X 11" Prismacolor colored pencil on paper Wood Birthed from Clay is a tribute to my older sister. Represented by a wooden doll, she lies atop a clay world that she can't seem to connect with because of her autism. Regardless, the clay-ridden hands embrace her the same way my family and I do. In this piece, I challenged myself to use as many colors possible to create a depthness in my work.

A DREAM14" X 16"
Acrylic on wood panel A Dream shows what the world will be like if we do not change the ways we take care of our planet. Water levels will rise until they brush past our feet, animals replaced with only an idea of what they once were. With closed eyes, we'll be held prisoner to the limited resources of Earth. While painting, I challenged myself to create textures of bedsheets, paper, and pajama cloth.

MORNING COFFEE16" X 15"
Acrylic on wood panel Morning Coffee is a piece that everyone can relate to. It depicts looking out at the mysterious air that follows a cold foggy morning, wondering what the day will bring. In this piece I experimented with light setting and water control to evoke the hazy atmosphere outside the window.

PLAYING JACKS19.5" X 20"
Watercolor on cotton fabric Playing Jacks was created to show the simple joy in playing a game with friends, finding bliss in vibrant youth. Playing Jacks is my first watercolor piece done on fabric so far, and through this piece I learned many techniques of texturing and shading.

A SUBWAY SNAPSHOT14" x 11"
Prismacolor colored pencil on paper Inspired by my daily two hour commute to school and back, A Subway Snapshot illustrates a crowded NYC subway with people going about their daily lives. The piece shows individuality and an inexplicable sense of peeking into one's routines.

LUNCH6" x 4"
Acrylic on paper Thinking of my favorite grab-and-go snack, I created Lunch as a way to step out of my comfort zone. Not only was Lunch my smallest acrylic piece yet, but also my first time experimenting with texture and painting on paper rather than wood.
|
HANDMADE7" x 10"
Ballpoint pen on paper Handmade shows the behind-the-scenes of chefs at work, an image that one may see when stepping into a restaurant kitchen. As my first ballpoint pen piece, Handmade represents a milestone in the different artistic mediums I've used.
|
STONE WALLS7" x 10"
Ballpoint pen on paper Stone Walls, like Handmade, is a ballpoint pen piece. Showing the rustic setting of an alleyway, Stone Walls is a piece where I challenged myself to use only straight lines when shading, producing a rigid atmosphere that compliments the stony texture.

FISH7" x 10"
Watercolor on paper Fish is a simple watercolor piece where I decided to study textures. The metallic-like shine of the fish and transparency of the glass jar proved to be a little bit of a challenge, but this piece also expanded my horizon on colors as I struggled to mix the color of the metallic scales.
|
CHERRY7" x 10"
Watercolor on paper Similar to Fish, Cherry is another watercolor texture study, showing a couple cherries resting in a metal jug. This time, I decided to focus on the battered metal texture, wanting to capture both the shine and the dents.
|
MARBLES7" x 10"
Pencil on paper Marbles is a pencil on paper sketch that illustrates five marbles sitting in the light. In this piece I pushed myself to include as many details as possible, getting the effect of light passing through the marbles and casting a dim glow on their shadows.
|
REFLECTION14" x 11"
Pencil on paper Unlike a typical still life piece, Reflection features a crumpled package of instant noodles and a metal cup sitting atop some fabric. I created this piece when I realized I needed to work on my weak spot, which was sketching sharp, shiny, and metallic objects.
